Bantwal, Jun 27: In a quick action, police arrested the accused who stabbed a woman with a knife at Neralakatte junction of Netlamudnooru village on Monday June 27.

The deceased woman, Shakuntala (35), was a resident of Ananthadi Devinagara and wife of Sanjeeva.

Shakuntala was running a canteen at Puttur and was on her way towards Puttur on Monday afternoon on her two-wheeler when the incident took place.

The police arrested and took the accused youth into custody. The accused has been identified as Sridhar, an auto driver and a resident of Puttur.

Sridhar was engaged in a conversation with the woman resulting in a verbal spat between the two when Sridhar fished out a knife and stabbed Shakuntala fiercely. Sridhar fled the scene and moved towards Puttur after the incident.

At the time of the occurrence of the incident, a driver of a private vehicle captured the incident on his mobile phone and transferred it to the police.

In the meantime, Shakuntala who was seriously injured was rushed to the government hospital by the locals, but she died on the way to the hospital.

It is said that Sridhar had threatened Shakuntala earlier too and the woman had filed a complaint with the Vittal police in this regard. The police had warned Sridhar.

Shakuntala's husband Sanjeeva reportedly told the police that it was out of grudge that Sridhar had killed his wife.

The accused Sridhar has been taken into police custody and has been subjected to interrogation.

A police team led by inspector H E Nagaraj visited the spot of the incident.

Bantwal, Jun 27: A youth attacked a woman, who was walking along the road, with a knife and escaped from the scene in Neralakatte junction of Netlamuddanooru village. The woman who sustained severe injuries due to the attack died as per information received.

The deceased has been identified as Shakuntala (35), wife of Sanjeeva and a resident of Ananthadi Devinagara.

The woman sustained serious injury due to the knife attack. Following the attack, the woman was taken by the locals to Bantwal government hospital. The woman had breathed her last by the time she could be rushed to the hospital. Doctors announced her dead, the police said.

Vittal police inspector H E Nagaraj and his team visited the spot of the incident to collect information.

It is learnt that the deceased woman was running a hotel in Puttur and it was also learnt that the person who attacked her was absconding and details regarding his whereabouts are yet to be known.
