Mangaluru, May 20: The Women's police station personnel from city have arrested a man for allegedly enticing a woman who lived in an apartment in the city with a promise of marriage, sexually assaulting her and then fleecing her Rs 1.5 crore.

Fayaz (30), native of Vittal Byrikatte is the accused in police custody.

Fayaz and the woman got acquainted when the victim’s family was living in Surathkal in 2012 and they befriended each other. The woman's husband is an entrepreneur and financially well-off. Accused Fayaz took the woman into confidence and started behaving in a very close manner.

Four years ago, the family of the victim woman changed their residence from Surathkal to an apartment in the city. It is said that the accused exploited the woman sexually and also swindled her of huge sums of money.

The woman lodged a complaint with the city police commissioner and a case was registered in the women's police station of the city. A police team led by station inspector Lokesh arrested accused Fayaz on Tuesday. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
