Beltangady: Increase in illegal activities on Charmadi Ghat, police beef up security

Beltangady, May 16: Police patrol is increased after passengers in a car, which was parked after it met with an accident, were robbed on Charmadi Ghat a few days ago.

The police department has also increased to curtail the unwanted activities of tourists who stop on ghat for sightseeing.

Many passengers who stop their vehicles in order to see the beauty of nature on the ghat cause traffic jam. In addition, they cross the roads without any precaution. They also cause obstruction to traffic as they click pictures on the middle of the road.

Chikkamagaluru SP Akshay said that mulling is on to establish a universal check post at Kottigehara. He said that a plan will be formed to establish a single check post for forest, police and agricultural produce checking. CCTV cameras will also be installed.

Chikkamagaluru zilla panchayat CEO said that action will be initiated against unauthorised shops and canteens on the ghats after discussion with NHAI.

The police action is very much required as monsoon is round the corner. During the rainy season due to the fog covering the hills on Charmadi Ghat, many people visit the place for sightseeing which causes traffic jam. This year at least, the public will not create chaos on the ghat during rains as police have increased their patrol and started questioning people.
