Udupi: 'India taught culture, refinement to world' - Dr Parameshwar

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jan 19: "India is a country which taught refinement and culture to the rest of the world. It also imparted all kinds of knowledge to the entire world," said former deputy chief minister of Karnataka, Dr G Parameshwar.

He was addressing the gathering at the Darbar (court) convened as part of Paryaya festival of Sri Krishna Math on Tuesday January 18. "India gave knowledge about righteousness to the world. Righteousness is different from religion. Everyone has to make up their minds to be righteous (morally right and justifiable)," he opined.

Parameshwar said that the entire world has turned towards India that has a rich history spanning over thousands of years. He recalled that scholars from other countries used to come to India, as exalted educational institutions like Nalanda and Taxila existed here. He asserted that towards achieving peace, it is necessary to follow the messages given by India to live in harmony and peace.

He said that people who live in cohesion with the five great elements (Pancha Bhoota) have to stay united and that India has to teach the world to remain peaceful. He added that Indian culture is quite different and its heritage has a history of thousands of years and therefore India is unique. He said that all the efforts to make the society move in the right direction were made as per the Indian culture, and the messages, morals, principles and ideals preached by Lord Krishna have become a part of the Indian culture. Parameshwar said that just following the path shown by Lord Krishna would be sufficient to make the country eminent.

Paryaya festival committee working president and MLA K Raghupati Bhat welcomed. Honorary president K Sooryanarayana Upadjyaya delivered the introductory address. Dignitaries like Manjunath Bhandary, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Abhay Chandra Jain, M S Mahabalelshwar, Shyamala Kunder, Sunil Paranjape and Bindu Robert participated in the programme.

General secretary of the Samithi, Vishnuprasad Padigar, proposed the vote of thanks. Retired professor Prof M L Samaga and G Vasideva Bhat Perampalli presented the programme.

Judge of the high court, Justice Dinesh Kumar, said that the principles preached by Madhwacharya are not confined to India and they have influenced the entire world. He said that the routine taught by Madhwacharya is being followed by people from all over the country, and through International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Madhwacharya continues to attract people of the world in a unique way towards Indian culture.

Lets us focus on some of the good things religion propagates/directs, Lets work towards abolishing caste system, which is utterly misused by our politicians and political system, lets unite all hindus under one banner, one god one humanity & one unity. lets remove pankti beda, madey snana, child marriages etc lets respect other religions and their practices, as they are our own, their ancestors were Hindus. Lets move to progressive society with equality and respect for all, especially for our women folk. We workship shakti in our temples at the same time we ill-treat that very shakti at home only then we will have peace and progress in society.

K R Prabhu Maam No use arguing with people who somehow seem to side with those who burnt Nalanda!! Let them for starters know how long it took to burn Nalanda! Till where the smoke rolls were seen ! Coming from outside, some have the gall to doubt the very existence of our civilization , having robbed everything from here !!Many don't even know their lineage and harp in between ! What to argue about word Hindu?? Everyone knows who gave it?? Now many are digging their political graves here by giving discourses on Hindu and Hindutva !! This by those who have no clarity as to where they belong ! Distorting history might have paid material dividends but as always truth shall prevail. The ' Wash out ' of the distorters is there for all to see.

It is every country's right to think well of itself and it's citizens to be proud of their culture, this sentiment is often misused only to grab power.

In 1850 AD, the non-Brahmin Indians were illiterate. The Christian missionaries from Europe selflessly worked in India, built schools, and educated Indians. So, when did the Indians teach culture to others?

Missionaries teaching in olden days is not all a service. It was service with selfish. With due respect to Christians and Christianity , Christianity came only 2000 years ago....But Hinduism existed time immemorial, before any religion of the world came in to existence.Every religion has a founder. But nobody says the religion of such founders parents...Strange. Only Hindu religion is sanathan...Means whose existence is not known and interestingly now even in western countries the religious reforms are taking place rapidly .....Simply and beautifully it is Sanatana.. Lord Krishna said...ಸರ್ವ ದೇವ ನಮಸ್ಕಾರಮ್..ಕೇಶವಮ್ ಪ್ರತಿಗಚ್ಛತಿ.meaning...Worship god in whichever form, name ...ultimately every prayer comes to me only.I am the only one..ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನನ್ನಿಂದ..ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನಾನೇ. Have anybody seen a sanatani accusing or teasing, criticising other religions, their worshipped god ?no..never.Answer should be vice versa for others....

Sir, I keep hearing "Hindu" and "Sanatana" dharma. Happy to hear it. No complaints. Could you kindly provide a written source when "Hindu" or "Sanatana" mentioned in ANY Indian writings before the 18th century? I would really appreciate it. Several people who have tried to find the source have failed miserably. The word "Hindu" is an Arabic word. I have been told that what people are claiming Hindu/Sanatana is actually Brahmin religion. The records of Brahmin religion go back several centuries in our region.

Hinduuism is a coglemerate of various beleifs. Your given freedom to pray the way you want. There is no book to follow. There is no rule book at all. There are scriptures most of which dates before Abrahamic religions. Scriptures are meant for guidance value. Some of the traditions which may or may not be within these books were followed by adherents of certain geopgraphical region. The name to the religion is given by others as a beleif or traditions does not necessarily have a name.

Any sources to your claims? Why does no one finds any real source information, written anywhere, on Nalanda University? Until we find sources, it is just Chandamama myth. Gurukula was a Brahmin system for Brahmin children only,. Brahmins NEVER educated non-Brahmins. Ayurveda is just 100 years old! Sansjrit did not exist before the 17th century! Please provide source.
