New Delhi, Nov 19: Senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi, paid heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary, remembering her as a symbol of courage, patriotism, and unwavering commitment to India’s progress.

Priyanka Gandhi, in a poignant post on X, described her grandmother as her “ideal,” praising Indira Gandhi’s strength and determination.
“Patriotism, compassion, strength, courage, dedication, and sacrifice — a steely personality forged from all these sentiments, which made the world recognize India’s might. She made the nation a nuclear power and strengthened the infrastructure that forms the backbone of today’s India,” she wrote.

“Grandma, you are my ideal, and through the values you instilled in me, you are always with me,” she added.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also remembered Indira Gandhi, noting that her fearlessness and principles continue to guide him.

“The inspiration to take courageous decisions for India and to always put the nation first comes from my grandmother. Her courage, patriotism, and ethics still give me the strength to stand firmly against injustice,” he said in a post on X.

Rahul Gandhi, along with Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, and other senior leaders, visited Shakti Sthal to offer floral tributes.

Kharge, in his tribute on X, hailed Indira Gandhi’s “exemplary and dynamic leadership” and her “immense political courage.”

“Her unwavering dedication to public service has left an indelible imprint on India’s journey of progress. Her supreme sacrifice to protect the unity and integrity of the nation deserves boundless reverence,” he said.

Indira Gandhi, often remembered as the “Iron Lady of India,” was born on November 19, 1917, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) to Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru. Her birth anniversary is observed as National Integration Day, honouring her profound contributions to India’s political, social, and economic landscape.
