Mangaluru: Preparations begin for new Kambala season - 17 Kambalas listed

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 20: Preparations for the new Kambala season are being made in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts at a brisk pace. Now the slushy fields where Kambalas will be arranged, are also being given a facelift. Kudi Kambala (trial) are being held at a few places now.

The Dakshina Kannada district Kambala Samithi has published the Kambala time table for the year 2021-22 which will be from November 27, 2021 and March 26, 2022. The leaders met in the city, held consultation with the heads of local committees, and fixed the dates, duly taking into account the need to maintain Covid protocol.

It is planned to hold 17 Kambalas between March 26, 2021 and March 26, 2022. The first of these Kambalas will be held at Moodbidri and the last one in Venoor.

Committee president P R Shetty, revealed that even though the time table has been published, there is a possibility of the dates of a few Kambalas undergoing changes.

Pilikula: It has been several years since Pilikula Kambala was last held. The minister and district administration are interested in holding it but the work of preparing the field has not yet begun. This date may be finalised after the newly formed Pilikula Development Authority commissioner holds talks with the district administration. It may be held in December.

The Talapady Soorya Chandra Jodukare Kambala will not be held this year too because of land dispute. The Kambala at Paivalike in Kasargod has been fixed but everything depends on the covid19 salutation in Kerala.

Kambala Committee general body meeting is expected to be held by October end or first week of November. A decision whether to form a new committee or retain the existing one will be taken there. The details of the Kambala Disciplinary Committee that has to be formed, will also be finalised there.

Efforts to see that the chief minister attends either Moodbidri or Miyyar Kambala are underway. Kannada and culture minister, Sunil Kumar, is interested in getting the attendance of the chief minister in a Kambala. Boliyar in Mangaluru taluk and Panapila in Moodbidri taluk may be able to hold Kambalas officially in the year 2022-23 as the work is under way there.
