Mangaluru: World Thinking Day, felicitation ceremony held at St Agnes School

Mangaluru, Feb 22: World Thinking Day was observed on February 22, at St Agnes School. Thinking day is celebrated by the girl guides and girl scouts around the world. The day is celebrated to appreciate the help and guidance of brothers and sisters around the world. Every year the ‘World Thinking Day’ has a theme attached to it. The theme of 2021 is ‘Peace Building – To stand strong, stand up and stand together.' The guide captains, guides students along with the joint secretary Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes AC, vice president of school welfare committee Jane Saldanha and the principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC escorted the chief guest Jayavanti Soans, joint secretary and the leader trainer of the district scouts and guides. The guide captains welcomed the dignitaries by pinning a badge and honouring them with a scarf.



The inauguration of the programme was done by the lighting the lamp by the dignitaries. The guides students of the Class 10 began the prayer service by reading the scriptures from the Holy Bible, the Quran and the Bhagavad Gita. The principal Sr Maria Gracilda AC welcomed the gathering through her words of wisdom and the guides students performed a welcome dance gracefully. A short skit on the importance of guides was performed through which they demonstrated the various skills learnt during the guides training. A powerpoint presentation on the significance of the day and the various activities performed by the students during the year 2019-20, 2020-2021 was displayed.

On this day, the school hosted the topper appreciation ceremony of Class 10 achievers for their outstanding performance. It was a moment of jubilation for the principal, teachers and students to honour the first three toppers and the subject wise highest scorers of the school for the academic year 2019-2020, with a cash prize, trophies and certificates of merit.

On this occasion, the chief guest Jayavanthi Soans addressed the gathering with her inspirational words. She spoke on the importance of the day and said that parent and teachers are the backbone and urged the students to be firm and committed to their duty as guides. Later Sr Dr Lydia Fernandes AC congratulated the guide captains and guide students and urged the students to continue to do a good deed every day so that they may remain a good guide all through their life. 

The toppers of diocesan catechism exam Melina Natasha Crasta and topper in value education Eshani Shivraj of Class 8, were also honoured with a certificate of merit and a trophy.

The principal Sr Maria Gracilda recognised the help rendered by the teachers and the support staff who were a great source of support and honoured them generously with a token for their hard work. Their contribution was in bagging the first place in the kitchen and herbal garden was highly appreciated and honoured.

The programme was concluded by proposing a vote of thanks by Kushi D Kajekkar.
