Bangalore, Apr 29: More than 100,000 students appeared for the Common Entrance Test 2010, Biology and Mathematics papers, conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) across the State on Wednesday.

Nearly 70 per cent of the total number of students appeared for Biology while 96 per cent turned up for the Mathematics paper.

The CET is the only gateway for procuring admissions to  medical, dental and engineering graduate courses in government and private colleges.

Across the 228 test centres in the State, the entrance test was conducted smoothly without any case of malpractice or impersonation.

In the City, more than 32,000 candidates appeared for the entrance test in 58 test centres. In the 170 centres outside Bangalore, more than 83,000 students appeared on the first day of the entrance test.

Higher Education Minister, Aravind Limbavali, who visited a few test centres, said appropriate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of CET across the State.

He said that CET results will be announced on May 25 for the benefit of students, adding that CET 2010 counselling process for medical, dental and engineering courses will be conducted from June 2.

“The counselling process will be held in six cities –– Bangalore, Hubli, Gulbarga, Mangalore, Shimoga and Davangere. Preparation for the smooth conduct of the counselling process in all the new centres has been completed,” Limbavali added.

On the much-discussed single CET applicable for both government and private professional institutions, Limbavali said the discussion on the issue had already begun.

On Thursday, Physics exam will be conducted from 10.30 am to 11.50 am and Chemistry will be from 2.30 pm to 3.50pm.

Very critical period and stressful time for the students, and their parents as well, but hard work, tenacity and perseverance will always prevail, and those students who apply these traits will do well and come out successful. Wish you well boys and girls in your exams.
