Mangalore: Flyover Construction near Nantoor to be Shelved?

Mangalore: Flyover Construction near Nantoor to be Shelved?
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SB)

Mangalore, Apr 27: The National High Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to drop the construction of flyover near Nantoor and temporarily shelve the construction works due to the unsolved land acquisition problem.

The NHAI had taken up construction of seven flyovers as part of the Suratkal – B C Road four-lane project. The flyover on national highway – 17 near Nantoor was the most important. However, now NHAI has decided to complete only six flyovers.

The problems of land acquisition and non-shifting of Mescom electric lines are the major roadblock faced by the NHAI for the project completion. All the necessary arrangements for flyover construction are in place, said NHAI project director P Gawasane. He clarified that the move to suspend the flyover is only temporary. “If the required land is handed over and electric lines are shifted, we would definitely take up the onstuction works of the flyover, he said.

Moreover, the necessity of dropping the flyover works has occurred as the contract period of Ircon to take up and finish the works is all set to end and the problems with regard to land acquisition seem to be unending. The construction is facing a similar roadblock at Brahmarakutlu near B C Road, wherein the construction on the 700metre stretch is still pending and if unresolved may remain a two lane, said NHAI sources.

Barring few flyover works, roads will be completed by June end. The other pending works will be completed in another one year, the extension period granted to the contractors, added sources.

Why cant govt. give reasonable compensation and not peanuts for claiming the land from the owner. Soon monsoon will start and who will repair the potholes from nanthoor to padil within 1 month. Only politicians blame either central or local govt.and absolutely there is no solution/remedy for drivers using these roads.

Great ! Fabulous. An absolute classical case of bureaucracy and red tapism - that too in the name of development and progress of Mangalore. By the way, one has to wait and see whose pockets were full (if it will be ever revealed) and who received how much kick-backs for this project alongwith the interested recipients involved.

This flyover (if completed) would just pass through my flat in Bikernakatta. But when the construction commenced, I thought the flyover would take at least 10-15 years to complete and i will have my kids to witness it. Now looks like even my grandchildren will not witness this flyover :( sigh! How sad!

The flyover between Nanthur and Maroli is stalled because NHAI, with the pressure from the local politician, was biased in making the road mid-line and the flyover was shifted to one side of the road so that the land owners of that side will lose more commercially valuable land and the other side will hardly lose any of their land. Why they are hitting around the bush and playing blame game. At this point who will bear the cost of the construction and the demolition of the existing fly-over? This should be investigated and the culprit must be punished.

Only when all issues are resolved the project has to be started. If things are uncertain the job should never be started. Feasibility report is mandatory prior to any such major project. This looks like all concerned are a bunch of jokers with no foresight, thinking and no strategy. At his stage we need intervention our our political leaders like our MP, HM and the CM. This is the time to show their effectiveness and importance.

If NHAI grossly fails to clear MESCOMe electrical lines,a state govt agency then how could clear private land acquisition?? This is nothing but KUNTU NEFA.NHAI&State govt, particularly district admin together with Mangalore Corporation should swing in to action to finish the temp shelved flyover,Nanthoor Cross as it is very sensative crossing.

Income of Dubai is much lesser than India yet they finished fly over of around 15 kilometers within 8 months, and they even started metro in said date. Reason for that is right people in right place. So even in India we have more capable, educated & sincere people who are in wrong place but wrong person in right place.

So we are still in developing country since 12 years. So people all we young people here concentrate on basic things which is necessary to India, like politics, engineering, etc etc inside India. Then we can really be in top. We can finish great buildings or other developing things easily.

People are least bothered in development of the city. Just they look for communal voilence.only fit for creating riots not for the development of the city. Its been ages that those flyovers are hanging like a skeleton all over mangalore. Politicians are also looking for their Benefits only, they doesn't fulfill the demands of public that they have vowed whn they come begging for votes door to door.

If stupid there in planning department this only the results. If they can’t complete the project, then why they wanted to start and mess the road also created more connection. Remove your structures from the middle of the road and give back to us as before.

In this point of time, the authorities cannot think of stopping the project. They can't leave it half done. District administration should do whatever its possible to complete this project. Commuters who pass by this flyover suffers a lot because of the thick dust and pathetic road in this place. I request the concerned authorities to take action as soon as possible.

End of the day its the people who to by two wheelers and bus passenger suffers. It may not affect the people who travel in air conditioned vehicle. Mangalore is developing very fast and its necessary to complete all these half done projects. I really wonder why politicians are not raising their voice against this isssue. Please solve this issue. Lets make Mangalore beautiful. Cheers!!!!

Instead of shifting the electric poles why not remove them and place underground cable for that strecth of the fly-over, cant it be done. As said by many there is no co-ordination between the govt dept. I have seen during my schooling days asphalt wiil be laid within a few weeks some Govt department will come and dig to lay pipe, cable, or drainage. This is our style of working.

Its left to people of Mangalore to decide if you are for religion or for development as far as Brahmara-Kootlu is concerned. When we do that and convince the locals, remaining issues too will fall in place.

The land acquisition authorities in Baikampady do not follow proper procedures and therefore this problem.Another major issue is that none of the departments (corporation, electricity, water etc.) sit with each other and therfore this enormous delay. Finally the local residents will be blamed and they will suffer.
