Mangalore, Aug 12: Radio - the popular media that happened to be an important part of the peoples’ lives, has not lost its listeners, said Concepta Fernandes, programme executive of Mangalore Akashavani, at a lecture organized by the Radio Listener’s Club, on Tuesday, August 12.

Delivering a lecture on `Life with Radio’ (Banuliyondige Baduku) conducted at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara College of Business Management auditorium in the city on Tuesday August 11, she reminisced her memories and experiences with the radio, not only as a listener, but also as an employee of the radio station. She said that her interest in the radio doubled, after she joined as a staff member in a radio station.

Briefing her experience of recording in a radio station for the first time ever when she was studying in the tenth standard, she said that everything looked new and strange, when she entered the recording room for the first time in her life. In spite of this, she had given a perfect audio for her article, she recollected. She recalled with gratefulness, those who inspired her to choose a career in the field of radio.

She noted that most of the listeners of radio have also lived with the radio and that almost all the members of a family are the listeners of each and every programmes tramsitted through the radio. At the same time, letters of appreciation as well as those containing criticisms and suggestions continue to be received by the radio station, she said.

“As a staff of the radio station, I have lived with the radio, but so many listeners too have lived with the radio and  its programmes. In fact, many songs and other presentations were inspired by scores of people,” said Concepta, adding that the listeners might change, but they are never not lost. Listeners will continue to be there for the radio, even if there a revolution in the media, she remarked .

Ananthakrishna, chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd, presided over the function. He said that  listening of radio had been a craze, but the craze has started acquiring new dimensions now. The listeners of radio will thrive, because it has the power to make the people to listen to it, he explained.

It was the eighth programme of the Radio Listeners Club that organizes lectures and other programmes related with the radio.
