Udupi: Women Needs to be Encouraged for their Empowerment - Dr V S Acharya

Udupi, Aug 9: Aatidonji Dina, a programme to mark Tulu month Aati was held at Mahila Samaja Sabha Bhavan here on Saturday August 8.

Speaking after inaugurating the programme, home minister Dr V S Acharya said that education among women needs to be encouraged for their empowerment. It is very heartening to see that women are still celebrating the age-old traditions. The women’s organizations not only teach women on how to save, but also help create awareness among women thereby leading to an awakened society, he observed.



Acharya assuring that the government will strive to include Tulu language in 8th Schedule of the Constitution, said that there should be an effort made to teach Tulu in schools. Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Paltady Ramakrishna Achar presided.

Ratnavati J Baikady gave a lecture on Tuluvara Aati. BJP state president and M P D V Sadananda Gowda, Udupi taluk Mahilamandalagala Okkuta president Sarala Kanchan, Secretary Yashoda J Shetty, Lions Club president Rajgopal, Lioness Club president Indira Hegde and academy convenor Dr Duggappa Kajekar were present.

The programme was jointly organized by academy, okkuta, Lions and Lioness Club. Okkuta president Sheela Shetty welcomed the gathering and Padmanabha Kekunnaya compered the programme.

    Dr. VS, That probably will be the first good you will be doing in your life to get Tulu included in the 8th schedule. Yet knowing you I am doubtful, once you cross the Ghats this would be the last thing you will remember.
