Mangalore, Aug 8:
Mangalore North police here on Saturday August 8 arrested 20 activists from Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) (Narayan Gowda faction) near Hampankatta circle, who were protesting against the arrest of their leader and state president Gowda and other 300 members in Mysore on Friday late night to maintain peace during installation of statue of Tamil saint and poet Tiruvalluvar in state on Sunday Aug 9.

The KRV activists here in the city protested against the arrest of their leader claiming that the arrest was against the spirit of democracy. The protestors termed the arrest unlawful as in a democracy one has the right to protest. The activists further stressed that installation of the statue of Tiruvalluvar in the state was being undertaken against the will of Kannadigas.

The protestors urged the release of their leader and other fellow members. At this juncture, police intervened and tried to stop the protestors from agitating as it hindered the traffic. However, when police failed to convince the protestors to move away from the spot, they resorted to arrest the KRV activists. A case has been registered in this regard.

If at all any personalities are to be remembered or respected, the best way is to spend tax payers money by establishing schools or any other insitutions in their names and paying tribute. For this literary champion a literary institution can be named after him. By erecting statues we are not going to achieve any thing. On the contrary, if not maintained, it will be nesting place for birds who sits and defacates on these stautes and makes it ugly.

With the passage of time, people start worhsipping these idols and personality cult is encouraged. Why we are giving importance to statues and why not for their contribution to the respective fields? For eg MGM college of Udupi is named after Mahatama Gandhi and its imparting good quality education to students. Have our think tanks gone dry?????

These few illiterate people joined together and created KRV they do not represent true Kannadigas. Being a Kannadiga I have no objection to install Tamil saint and poet Tiruvalluvar. But my question is why the Government want to install statues? instead they can spend this money for some other good purpose.

Dear Kannadigas, I do not support building statue of any great personnel or leaders dead or alive from the government funds (tax payer’s money). As a token of respect them, let the authority use that funds to start schools, scholarships or any other noble causes.

We should not waste our time, energy and revenue on trivial matters. please note that organizing for the sake of language and struggling for the promotion of it, these are praiseworthy and to be appreciated. This is divine wisdom that difference of languages, dialects and colors in humans. This should not a cause to hate fellow human.
