Christians Observe Ash Wednesday with Fervour

Ash Wednesday was observed by Christians on Wednesday February 25 in the metro, as is the practice all over the world.  The faithful perform sacrifices, fasting, and penance, during the Lenten season which began with the priest applied ash on the forehead of the devotees.  
 


The Lenten season of 40 days began on Ash Wednesday and which will be observed with special devotion to the passions of Jesus Christ by partaking in Stations of Cross, sacrifices, and penance.  The Lenten season will conclude on Good Friday that falls on April 10, 2009. 
 
The Christians of Mangalorean and Goan origin settled in the metro attended the Eucharistic celebration here on Wednesday evening in large numbers.  The parishioners of Holy Family Church, Chakala, Andheri (East), observed Ash Wednesday with fervor and fasting.
