Bangalore, Feb 4: BJP MLA from KGF in Kolar, Sampangi, who was suspended by his party after being caught by the Lokayukta police while accepting bribe, was granted conditional bail by the special subordinate court on Tuesday February 3.

Judge of the court R M Shettar, who heard the bail petition, moved by Sampangi, who is undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), granted bail to Sampangi with some conditions attached to it.

He was instructed to furnish a bond for Rs 25,000, present himself before the investigating officer (Lokayukta) on every Friday and not to attempt to destroy or meddle with evidences.

The court had reserved its decision in the matter, after hearing arguments and counter-arguments in the case. The judge announced the decision as soon as the afternoon session of the court commenced.

Advocate Chandramouli who represented the MLA in the bail petition said that the MLA was undergoing treatment in a hospital because of ill health. He prayed for bail as investigation in the matter has been completed. The public prosecutor had opposed the petition, saying that the investigation was incomplete and that granting of bail at this juncture would enable the legislator to twist evidences in his favour.
