City Catholic Body Condemns Case Against TOI

Daijiworld Media Network – Mumbai (CN)

Mumbai, Jun 4: The Bombay Catholic Sabha (BCS) has expressed dismay and shock over the filing of a case of “sedition and criminal conspiracy” by the police against the Ahmedabad edition of the Times of India (TOI). The Sabha has demanded stern action against the concerned police officials.

The editor, and the crime reporter of the Ahmedabad edition of TOI have been named in the case. The move by the police follows reports in the newspaper raising questions about the appointment of O P Mathur as Ahmedabad Police Commissioner.

The BCS has termed the police action as ‘an attempt to silence the media, which is one of the important pillars of democracy.” They suggested the police should instead provide their version for publication, if required.

The Sabha demanded that the case be immediately withdrawn and punishment meted out to those who have misused the law, so it would act as a deterrent to others in future.
