New Delhi, May 16: Indian pacer Praveen Kumar has been accused of beating up a doctor in Meerut on Thursday night, according to reports by a private news channel.

The UP paceman landed up in police custody after a drunken brawl with the doctor. The doctor claimed that Praveen also abused him and was drunk at the time of the incident.

According to the reports, Praveen's action might lead to stringent measures from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Praveen might be charged under clause 3 of misdemeanour by the BCCI.

Currently, Praveen Kumar is playing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Perhaps name & fame entered into the head of Praveen Kumar. He had come from relatively a middle class family before he took cricket but now with sudden money and that also more than he could handle, he must have thought world is in hands. I hope not this could be his 'beginning of the end' of career in cricket.

Don't spare them - sack them ! Too much of prominence and money is taking our young cricketers far away from their sense of responsibilities. Forgetting that the game is giving them glory and a chance to live well, they seem to be taking the law into their hands. Probably the emergence of easy money with the help of a few good performances is making these young cricketers think too much. Recently, we saw the oft in trouble Harbhajan Singh misbehaving badly with Sreesanth and being slapped with a ban. Sreesanth should also have been given a stiff punishment but escaped by the skin of his teeth. Now, the promising Praveen Kumar who impressed in the IPL matches so much has fallen into the wrong habits if the reports are true.

The BCCI should not spare anyone and send all erring players straight into the dust bin. India has enough and more players to don the flannels and no player is above the law. The officials should show their authority and sack the errant cricketers without any hesitation. Praveen should be sent to cool his heels alongside Harbhajan for a long long time for the good of the game. Probably, very soon BCCI will have a separate cell to deal and tackle such law breaking and troublesome cricketers.
