Gangster-turned-MLA Arun Gawli held for Extortion

Mumbai, Apr 22: Arun Gawli, MLA from the Akhil Bharatiya Sena is now in the grasp of the Mumbai Crime Branch, arrested on charges of extortion.

Gawli, the gangster-turned-MLA was later presented at the Esplande court and remanded to police custody till May 2.

The Mumbai Police, which arrested him twice before but failed to lodge cases against on him said that this time they have got it right.

Rakesh Maria, Joint Commissioner of Police said, ''This time we have a water tight case and that this time the have enough evidence.''

Last month the police also arrested Gawli's brother Vijay Ahire and two others for threatening a city based builder for a ransom.

Their interrogation led the police to Gawli, including details of property documents of over 300 sites across the city found from Ahire's brothers' house.

The police, who have charged Gawli with criminal conspiracy and extortion are also considering slapping the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act against him.
