SRK expected to bear costs of Rs 300,000 for demolished ramp

Mumbai, Feb 21: Activists are asking for Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) to bear the costs that have been incurred by the Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) to demolish a ramp that he had built. The ramp apparently had been built in order to allow the actor to have his vanity van parked at close quarters to his palatial house Mannat in sururban Bandra.

The main reason why a lot of people were displeased with this ramp was that it blocked their way to the famous Mount Mary Shrine and school at the top of the hill. More so the construction was believed to have been illegal to boot. Built adjacent to the sidewall of his seafront residence the ramp was an obstacle in the path that was massively used by pilgrims and neighbouring residents alike.

The complaint had been brought to the notice of the Maharashtra Chief Minister by an NGO called the Watchdog Foundation in September 2013. They had also approached the Municipal Commissioner and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority. Godfrey Pimenta, who belongs to the foundation said that its people expected that the megastar to clear out the debris left over as well as repair the 300 or so year old road as well as provide for proper lights on the street. “We want the recovery of the entire cost of demolition for which the BMC had hired JCB excavators, 40 extra labourers, a generator van and so on.” he added.

He elucidated that the cost was in the region of Rs 200,000 to Rs. 300,000. More importantly many are wondering on the lack of legal action taken in this regard. “We are wondering why no prosecution has been launched against Khan/Gauri Khan/Daulatani & Associates (Architect) under the provisions of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act and Environment (Protection) Act — Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) violation, by filing of Criminal Complaint in an appropriate court,” was the statement made by Mr. Pimenta.
