New Delhi, Dec 11: It was the busiest day of the marriage season in the capital as an estimated 15,000 couples entered wedlock, keen not to let go the blessings of the stars above, with astrologers declaring the alignment of the celestial bodies very auspicious for tying the knot on Sunday.

All hotels, banquet halls and other marriage venues were taken, booked much in advance, as marriage processions led to traffic jams in several parts of the city.

According to astrologers, a rare planetary alignment or 'saaya' made the day very auspicious for getting married.

The planet Jupiter, which is believed to decide how lucky a woman would be in her marriage, was set to be in a favourable position in the star chart.

Caterers, tent owners, florists, beauticians and boutiques had a good day for business even as additional traffic police were deployed on the main arterial roads as well as near wedding venues to keep the traffic under control.

Traffic police officials had earlier held meetings with owners of farmhouses and banquet halls to ensure there were no traffic jams.

Farmhouse owners arranged for cranes to tow away cars that were parked improperly outside the marriage venues and also hired private security to regulate parking.

With the large number of farmhouses and banquet halls sealed in the capital following court orders, limiting the options for wedding venues, hotels, halls, parks and other venues had been booked much in advance.

Many people opted for venues outside Delhi in the National Capital region such as Gurgaon.
