Dubai, Dec 3: It was a bit of disappointment for all the 240-plus participants on SaturdaY when the organizing committee of Lourdes Kanajar finally called off the tournament due to heavy showers of rain.

Dark clouds kept hovering over Dubai’s skyscrappers and the merciful Sun barely made any appearances since morning when tournament proceedings were to take off at 8:30 am.

Earlier, most of the teams and spectators arrived early in the morning, and the breakfast was served at 8:30 am. The organizers were still uncertain as to when the weather will favor them and enable them to continue with the proceedings.
When the clouds started to clear up at around 9:30 am, Gilbert Aranha, the tournament MC invited all the participants to assemble near the stage. The guests included Sudhir Kumar Shetty of UAE Exchange, Sarvottam Shetty of Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha and  Lawrence D’Souza, president of Lourdes Kanajar.

Aloysius D’Souza of LKAE escorted the guests to the stage. LKAE president Lawrence D’Souza thanked all the teams for the overwhelming response and expressed his gratitude to all sponsors for supporting this tournament, which has been very successful in the last two years.

He then briefly highlighted LKAE’s achievements in the past, esp in the form of charity and educational support to many poor children who are pursuing higher studies in BSc-Nursing, General Nursing and other professional degree colleges.

On behalf of the players, Austin Barboza of LKAE read out the oath and all the players repeated his words in full spirit and the day’s first match was announced between Millennium Metals and St Paul’s Balkunje.

The first few matches were played successfully and here below are the winners of the only 5 league matches played when the rains interrupted once again.
