Maha cabinet clears 21 decisions, scraps Shinde-era project

Mumbai, Nov 5: A day before the announcement of local body elections in Maharashtra, the MahaYuti government on Tuesday cleared a record 21 key proposals in a single cabinet meeting — the highest number of approvals since the coalition came to power.

However, one major decision drew political attention — the cabinet scrapped Maha ARC Limited, a state asset reconstruction company set up in September 2022 during former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s tenure.

The company, modelled after the Centre’s National Asset Reconstruction Company, was denied a license by the Reserve Bank of India, making it non-operational. To prevent further expenditure, the government formally decided to dissolve it.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, also approved a Rs 2,000-crore loan guarantee to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for land acquisition of the Virar–Alibaug multi-modal transport corridor.

Other approvals included the establishment of an Urban Health Directorate under the Public Health Department and allocation of 395 sq. m. of land in Bandra to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) for parking, office, and other facilities.

The flurry of decisions came just hours before the State Election Commission’s press conference, where the civic poll schedule was expected to be announced.
