Indian women face Jordan in crucial AFC encounter

Amman, Nov 6 (IANS): The Indian Under-19 football team will aim at taking full points when they take on Jordan in a crucial match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women's Championships qualifiers at the Petra Stadium here Friday.

India went down 0-2 against Uzbekistan in their first match Wednesday.

"We have to win against Jordan. It's a do-or-die match for us. And for that, we need to improve our finishing," head coach P.V. Priya said in a statement Thursday.

"A defeat in the next match will ring exit bells for us. That's a motivation and pressure at the same time. They defend in a compact manner and the goalkeeper complements them further," she added.

"They have some skillful players. We can't allow them to move freely."

Still smarting under the defeat by Uzbekistan in the first match, Priya said her team is capable of playing much better football.

"We took time to settle down. We were much better in the second half and even had our chances. The girls are capable of playing much better and they are aware of it," she said.

Jordan defeated Lebanon 3-0 in their first game of the group.

"Our aim is to top the group and qualify for the final phase. I feel all the teams are evenly balanced and you cannot pick-up one as a favourite. There's lot of potential in our squad and need to utilise it," Khaled Eid, Jordan's head coach, said.
