Congress opposes Hindi push, warns of backlash

New Delhi, June 20 (IANS): The Congress Friday attacked the government for directing officials to use Hindi in social media, warning that this will lead to a backlash in non-Hindi speaking states.

"There will be a backlash in non-Hindi states, in particular in Tamil Nadu... The government is advised to proceed with caution," party leader P. Chidambaram told the media here.

He also said that governors appointed during the previous Congress-led UPA regime should be allowed to complete their term.

"There is a case for intervention (to remove governors) only when there is proven misconduct. Any office should be allowed to complete its term," Chidambaram said.
