Mangaluru: Man wanted in 2013 case arrested after 13 years on the run

Mangaluru, Oct 10: A man who had been absconding for 13 years in a case registered at the Mangaluru Women’s police station in 2013 has been arrested in Puttur and remanded to judicial custody.

The accused, Hasan Shabir (41), a resident of Park Apartment near KMC Hospital in Mangaluru, was wanted in connection with Women’s police station Crime No. 11/2013, registered under Sections 498A and 506 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The case had been pending for a long time before the 3rd Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Mangaluru under CC No. 2312/2013, Split CC No. 2111/2018 and LPC No. 57/2023. Despite the court issuing warrants against him around 37 times to secure his presence, Shabir had not appeared before the court for the past 13 years. He had changed his address and remained absconding.

On October 9, the police traced and took him into custody at an apartment in Puttur. A separate case, Women’s police station Crime No. 45/2026, was registered against him under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

He was produced before the court with appropriate security arrangements. The court ordered that he be remanded to judicial custody until October 17.

Under the guidance of senior officers, Women’s police station WPSI Jyothi, PSI Suresh and police personnel Shashidhar Shettar and Shashidhar Doddamani were involved in tracing and apprehending the accused.
