Beltangady: Rare black leopard trapped in forest dept cage at Shirlal

Beltangady, Oct 10: A rare black leopard was caught in a cage placed by the Forest Department at Manila in Shirlal village.

The Venur Forest Range officials had placed the cage a few days ago near the house of Padmanabha in Manila. On Saturday October 10, the black leopard was trapped in the cage, drawing villagers to the spot to catch a glimpse of the rare animal.

Venur range forest officer Bharat U G said the captured leopard was healthy. After a health examination by the Forest Department’s veterinary doctors, it will be safely released into a protected forest area.

Venur Range Forest Department personnel, including Aladangady section deputy range forest officer Hariprasad, patrol forest guard Manjunath B S, forest watcher Venakappa Naik and Poovappa Naik, along with local residents, participated in the operation.
