Udupi: MGM College NSS students receive hands-on CPR training

Udupi, Oct 10: Everyone should be prepared to save lives by learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), said Dr Rohan S Monis, chief administrative officer of Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, Mangaluru.

He emphasised that CPR and AED techniques can be learned and performed by people irrespective of their age or educational qualifications. Urging students to put their knowledge into practice, he called upon them to use the CPR skills acquired during the programme to help save lives at home, in colleges and in society.

Dr Monis was speaking as the chief guest at a CPR awareness and demonstration programme organised jointly by Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences and the Catholic Association of South Canara (CASC) during the annual special camp of the National Service Scheme (NSS) of MGM College at Padubelle.

All the NSS volunteers actively participated in the demonstration and received practical training in CPR and life-saving techniques.

CASC president Dr Eric Lobo, CASC governing council member Peter Pinto, and Dr Ramesh Kumar and Dr Lekhan Gowda from the emergency medicine department of Kanachur Hospital were present. NSS Unit 2 officer Dr Rekha N Chandra also attended the programme.

NSS officer Suchith Kotian delivered the introductory remarks. Student Suviksha welcomed the gathering and introduced Dhanya. Reeka proposed the vote of thanks, while Soni Prakash compered the programme.
