Beltangady, Oct 5: Deepesh (27), a resident of Mantaje in Shishila village, who was injured in a road accident near Banakal while travelling to Mantralayam, died despite treatment.

The injured persons have alleged that although they had informed the police that the driver of the car responsible for the accident was under the influence of alcohol, the matter was not mentioned in the FIR and an attempt was made to divert the case.

On September 29, Raghu (32) of Shishila, former Shishila Gram Panchayat president Sudhin, Satish, Deepesh, Deepak alias Thirumaleshwar and Shobith alias Nagaraj had set out for Mantralayam. At around 3.40 am, near Sabbenahalli village on National Highway 73, a car coming from the Mudigere side collided with their car.

Deepesh, who was seated in the rear, sustained injuries to his neck, while Sudhin suffered an injury to his left shoulder. Raghu, Satish, Nagaraj and Deepak also sustained minor injuries.

Deepesh and Sudhin were taken to a private hospital in Ujire for further treatment. As advised by doctors, Deepesh was later shifted to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where he was undergoing treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
