Puttur, Oct 5: Fire and Rescue Services personnel conducted a search operation in the Kumaradhara River after a missing man’s motorcycle and mobile phone were found on the Kumaradhara Bridge here.

Madhava Gowda of Hirebandady village had left home four to five days ago, telling his family that he was going to his shop in Athur. However, he did not return home. While searching for him, his motorcycle, mobile phone and other belongings were found on the bridge. Following this, a missing person case was registered at the Uppinangady police station.

Meanwhile, following a request from the family, a team led by Shankar of the Puttur Fire and Rescue Services conducted a search operation in the river on Sunday. Despite searching for around four hours, the team could not find any clue about the missing man.

A boat that was earlier available at Uppinangady at all times is no longer available. After the boat was withdrawn from service, a practice had been followed of bringing a rubber boat from Mangaluru and keeping it here for four months, from June to September. As the period had ended, the boat had been sent back to Mangaluru.

The Puttur Fire and Rescue Services personnel, who were unaware of the current status of the boat at Uppinangady, arrived for the operation believing that a boat was available here. However, as there was no boat, one had to be brought from the Puttur office before the search operation could be conducted.

During the operation, members of the public and curious onlookers gathered on and around the bridge to watch the search.
