Kanpur, Jul 16: The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) in Kanpur has launched a special enforcement drive against momo manufacturing and vending units, shutting down three establishments over alleged hygiene violations and destroying around 115 kg of suspected stale chutney.
The action was carried out on Wednesday in Rawatpur, Saket Nagar and Maswanpur areas following directions from District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh.
Food safety officials inspected Akash Momos in Keshav Nagar, Shri Balaji Momos in Rawatpur and another momo unit in Saket Nagar as part of the crackdown.

During the inspections, officials reportedly found serious lapses in cleanliness and food safety practices. The chutney served with momos was allegedly stored under unhygienic conditions, raising concerns over its quality.
Samples of momos and chutney were collected and sent to a laboratory for testing.
At Shri Balaji Momos, officials found that the manufacturing unit was operating without mandatory food business registration. Authorities also reported unhygienic conditions at the premises and destroyed around 45 kg of chutney on the spot.
The operator was directed to keep the unit closed until obtaining the required registration and rectifying the identified deficiencies.
The enforcement team also inspected momo carts in the Maswanpur area, where coloured finger chips and chutney were found to be failing hygiene standards. The food items were destroyed during the inspection.
Officials said a total of around 115 kg of suspected contaminated chutney was disposed of during the operation.
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh said the administration would not compromise on food quality and hygiene standards.
He added that all collected samples had been sent for laboratory examination and strict action would be taken against those found violating provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
