Vasco, Jul 10: Vasco Police have registered a case against a contractor after a labourer died following a fall from the second floor of a house undergoing renovation at New Vaddem in Vasco.

According to police, the incident occurred on July 6 at around 2.12 pm near the Goa State Co-operative Bank.

The accused has been identified as Hapich Hossain, a resident of Shantinagar, Vasco, and a native of Cooch Behar, West Bengal. He had allegedly engaged mason and labourer Altab Mian, a resident of New Vaddem and originally from West Bengal, to remove metal plates installed over wooden scaffolding on the second floor of the building.

Police alleged that the contractor failed to provide adequate safety measures and protective equipment, including safety belts, helmets and proper fall-protection arrangements, and allowed the labourer to work at height under unsafe conditions.

During the work, Altab Mian reportedly lost his balance and fell from the second floor, sustaining serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Vasco Police have registered a case against the contractor, and further investigation is being conducted by PSI Akanksh Fadte Dessai.
