Dharamsala, Jun 6: A moderate-intensity earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale struck Himachal Pradesh on Friday night, triggering panic among residents in several districts, including Kangra and Chamba.
According to the Meteorological Department, the earthquake occurred at 10.04 pm and had a depth of 5 km. The epicentre was located near Dhar Godoi in Kangra district, about 40 km from Dharamsala near the Kangra-Chamba border.
Tremors were felt across parts of Kangra, Chamba and adjoining districts, prompting many residents to rush out of their homes as a precaution.

Officials said no loss of life or damage to property had been reported from any part of the state till late Friday night.
Kangra and Chamba districts fall under Seismic Zone V, one of the country's highest earthquake-risk zones.
The tremors were also felt in Chandigarh and several parts of Punjab and Haryana.
A Chandigarh resident, Baldev Chand, said he experienced mild shaking while preparing to sleep.
“The tremors lasted only for a few seconds,” he said.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation, while residents in affected areas have been advised to remain alert.
