Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, May 20: At least 14 militants were killed and several others injured in a fierce clash between rival armed groups in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Wednesday, police said.

According to police officials, the confrontation broke out between two militant factions led by commanders Kazim and Mumtaz Imti in the Manato Kamran Killay area of Central Kurram district, which shares a border with Afghanistan.

During the exchange of fire, commander Mumtaz Imti was also killed, the officer confirmed. Following the clash, locals reportedly buried the bodies in the area.

Authorities said security forces have been conducting multiple operations in Central Kurram in recent times, amid reports of the presence of several militant groups operating in the region.

Officials further stated that during these operations, militant training centres and hideouts were destroyed, and hundreds of militants were neutralised.

Police added that several armed factions are still believed to be active in the Manato Kamran Killay area, and monitoring and security operations are continuing.
