Bengaluru, May 12: In a significant move, the Karnataka state government has announced a 12.5% salary hike for the employees of the state road transport corporations. The government has issued an official order directing the implementation of the revised pay scale, which will reflect in the salaries from July 1.
The 12.5% increment will be calculated based on the basic pay of the employees as of March 31, 2025. This announcement comes after years of persistent demands from the transport workers for a wage revision.

However, the transport employee unions have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government's decision. The unions had been adamantly demanding a 25% wage revision and had previously warned of a strike if their demands were not met. Displeased with the 12.5% hike, the unions have refused to accept the government's current offer.
Consequently, workers from all four road transport corporations have decided to go ahead with a planned state-wide strike on the 20th of this month. The employees remain steadfast in their demand for a 25% salary increase retroactive to January 2024, and have strongly opposed the government's decision to implement the 12.5% hike based on March 2025 calculations.
