From inspector’s son to UPSC success: Abhinav Sharma secures AIR 130, set to fulfil IPS dream

Uttar Pradesh, May 11: Abhinav Sharma from Meerut secured an impressive All India Rank (AIR) of 130 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Examination 2024 final results. With IPS as his first preference, Abhinav is set to realise his long-cherished dream of joining the police service.

Abhinav’s father, Ramesh Chandra Sharma, is currently serving as the station house officer of Dehli Gate police station in Meerut. He had joined the police department as a constable, later cleared the sub-inspector examination, and is now serving as an inspector.

Having grown up watching his father in police uniform, Abhinav too nurtured the dream of wearing the uniform one day. He completed his BTech in civil engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Patna in 2020 and chose not to take up a job, instead dedicating himself fully to civil services preparation.

Abhinav could not clear the preliminary examination in his first attempt in 2021, but he did not lose hope. In 2022, he cleared both the prelims and mains and reached the interview stage, but missed the final selection. In his third attempt in 2023, he qualified for the civil services and was allotted the Indian Postal Service. However, his dream of becoming an IPS officer remained alive, and he took leave from the service to prepare again.

In his fourth attempt, Abhinav secured AIR 130 and is now on the path to becoming an IPS officer.
