Kadaba, May 8: In a tragic incident, two girl students drowned while taking a bath near the Kolyadakatta dam across the Gundya river under the limits of the Kutruppady gram panchayat on Friday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Arpitha (15) and Sunitha (21), both residents of Vimalagiri in Kutruppady village.

According to sources, a group of five friends had visited the river as it was a holiday. When they stepped into the water for a bath, Arpitha and Sunitha reportedly failed to gauge the depth of the water and began to drown. Although the friends accompanying them desperately attempted to rescue them, their efforts were in vain, resulting in the tragedy.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Kadaba police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. The bodies of the two victims were retrieved from the water with the assistance of local residents.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the spot as the family members of the deceased wailed over the tragic loss. A case has been registered in this regard at the Kadaba police station.
