Udupi police launch ‘Locked House Beat System’ to protect vacant homes

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, May 7: In a bid to enhance the safety and security of locked houses, the Udupi district police have introduced an innovative programme titled “Locked House Beat System” (LHBS).

Under this initiative, police personnel will keep special watch over houses that remain locked when residents travel for work, tours, or other personal reasons. Beat staff from the respective police station limits will visit such houses during both daytime and night hours to ensure proper security and protection.

Residents of Udupi district planning to leave their homes locked while travelling are requested to inform the Udupi District Control Room by calling the dedicated helpline number 0820-2526709.

Residents must also send details to the WhatsApp number provided by the control room, including the date and time of departure and return, the exact residential address, and a selfie photograph taken in front of the house.

The district control room will then forward the information to the concerned police station, which in turn will assign beat staff to monitor the house until the specified return date and time mentioned in the WhatsApp message.

Police clarified that this facility is available only for individual houses and not for apartments or multi-storey residential flats.

The department has also urged the public not to share house details or personal information with any unofficial or unknown phone numbers.
