Iran warns US over maritime pressure, signals strong response in West Asia tensions

Tehran, Apr 26: Iran’s top military command, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has warned that it will respond firmly if the United States continues what it describes as “blockade, banditry and piracy” in the West Asia region.

In a statement reported by Iranian media, the command referred to recent US naval restrictions affecting movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route for global oil and trade. It alleged that vessels linked to Iranian ports have been obstructed, escalating tensions in the region.

The statement said Iran’s armed forces remain fully prepared to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, claiming they are stronger than before and capable of responding to any further escalation. It also asserted that Iran had already demonstrated its capabilities during recent military confrontations involving the US and Israel.

Iranian officials warned that continued hostile actions could lead to more severe consequences for both the United States and Israel, stating that Iranian forces are closely monitoring developments in the region and maintaining control over strategic maritime routes.

Separately, Saudi-linked media outlet Al Arabiya reported, citing sources, that Iran is unwilling to engage in negotiations that involve US-imposed “red lines,” reflecting continued diplomatic deadlock.

The tensions come amid ongoing regional diplomacy. Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi recently met Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir in Islamabad to discuss ceasefire efforts, regional stability, and bilateral cooperation.

According to reports, Iran has tightened its control over the Strait of Hormuz in recent months, restricting passage of vessels linked to the US and Israel following earlier military strikes. Although a ceasefire was reached earlier in April after weeks of conflict, subsequent diplomatic talks have failed to produce a lasting agreement.

Planned follow-up negotiations were reportedly delayed after Iran objected to continued US maritime restrictions and what it called excessive demands, leaving prospects for renewed dialogue uncertain as tensions remain high in the region.
