New Delhi, Apr 25: Delhi Capitals pacer Lungi Ngidi was taken to hospital after suffering a serious head injury while attempting a catch during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.

According to reports, the South African fast bowler was shifted to Max Hospital, Pusa Road, for further medical examination.

The incident occurred in the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase when Priyansh Arya sliced a delivery from Axar Patel high towards mid-off.

Ngidi ran back for the catch but appeared to misjudge the ball and, while falling backwards, struck the back of his head hard on the ground.

Witnesses said his head bounced off the surface on impact, after which he clutched his head in pain and lay still for some time, prompting immediate concern among players and support staff.

The team physio and doctor rushed onto the field and attended to him before a stretcher was brought out.

Medical staff were seen stabilising his neck and placing a brace before he was taken off the field in an ambulance.

Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting also walked onto the field as medical personnel treated the injured pacer.

The incident left players and spectators visibly concerned, with the stadium falling silent as the seriousness of the injury became apparent.

There was no immediate word on the extent of the injury, though reports indicated Ngidi was unlikely to return to the match.
