Minor booked under POCSO, IT Act over alleged child sexual abuse material on Instagram

Colva, Aug. 7: Colva police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against a minor for allegedly downloading, viewing and transmitting child sexual abuse material through an Instagram account.

According to police, the alleged offence took place in March, when the minor is suspected to have downloaded, viewed and shared electronic content depicting children engaged in sexually explicit acts.

Police said the material falls within the ambit of child sexual abuse material and was of a nature that could offend an adult.

Based on the complaint, Colva police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.

Police Sub-Inspector Anil Krishna said an investigation has been launched to ascertain the operation of the Instagram account and collect further evidence in the case.

Further investigation is in progress.
