Tehran, Apr 23: Iran has executed a man convicted of espionage for Israel’s intelligence agency, according to the judiciary, in the latest such case reported during a period of heightened regional tensions.
The judiciary’s official outlet, Mizan Online, identified the individual as Mehdi Farid and said he was hanged after being found guilty of “intelligence cooperation and espionage” for Mossad under the charge of “corruption on earth,” a capital offence in Iran.

According to the report, Farid had worked in a civil defence unit within a sensitive organisation and allegedly used his position to collect and pass information to Israeli intelligence. His death sentence was upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court and carried out following the completion of legal procedures.
Authorities did not disclose details regarding the timing of his arrest or trial.
The execution comes amid a series of similar cases in recent weeks, as Iranian officials have linked several individuals to unrest earlier this year, which Tehran has blamed on foreign involvement, including Israel, the United States, and opposition groups such as the People's Mujahedin.
The development coincides with a fragile ceasefire involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, which has been in place since April 8 and was recently extended by Donald Trump.
