New Delhi, Apr 23: Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc has been cleared by Cricket Australia to resume competitive action and is set to join Delhi Capitals for the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

Starc, who had been recovering from elbow and shoulder injuries sustained during the Australian summer, is expected to link up with the squad soon and gradually increase his bowling workload. He is likely to make his first appearance of the season in Delhi’s May 1 clash against Rajasthan Royals after missing the initial phase of the tournament.

The injury followed a demanding run of matches, where Starc played all five Tests in the Ashes series, helping Australia secure a 4-1 victory and earning Player of the Series honours. He later featured in the Big Bash League before being sidelined.

Delhi Capitals, currently placed mid-table with three wins and three losses, will be hoping Starc’s return strengthens their bowling unit, which has so far been led by Lungi Ngidi.

Earlier, Starc had addressed criticism over his delayed arrival through a social media statement, clarifying that he was managing injuries and reaffirming his commitment to the franchise. He acknowledged the disruption caused to the team and apologised to fans for missing the early matches.

Meanwhile, fellow Australian pacer Pat Cummins is also set to return to action. Cummins, who had been dealing with a back stress issue, has been cleared after positive scan results and is expected to resume captaincy duties for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their upcoming fixture.

Both returns are expected to boost their respective teams as the tournament enters a crucial phase.
