Hyderabad, Apr 18: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have announced the signing of South African pacer Gerald Coetzee as a replacement for injured England bowler David Payne in IPL 2026.

Payne, who featured in two matches for SRH, has been ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

Coetzee, who went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction, has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in the league. In 14 IPL matches so far, he has taken 15 wickets and will now look to make an impact for SRH in the ongoing season.

The South African fast bowler was also part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad but did not feature in the playing XI during the tournament.

SRH have further received a boost with the return of regular captain Pat Cummins, who is expected to be available for their match against Rajasthan Royals on April 25. Coetzee has been signed for Rs 2 crore.

Meanwhile, SRH are set to take on Chennai Super Kings in their next fixture on April 18 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Currently placed fifth on the points table, SRH have won two and lost three of their five matches under the leadership of Ishan Kishan. The team will be aiming for a crucial win to improve their position in the standings.

Chennai Super Kings, who also have two wins from five matches, will be looking to strengthen their campaign with a strong performance in Hyderabad.
