Iran warns US Hormuz blockade would breach ceasefire

Daijiworld Media Network - Tehran

Tehran, Apr 13: Iran has warned that any move by the United States to blockade the strategic Strait of Hormuz would be considered a violation of the ongoing ceasefire, escalating tensions after failed peace talks.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said any military vessels approaching the strait would be treated as breaching the two-week truce and would face a “harsh and decisive” response.

The warning comes after the US announced plans to impose a naval blockade targeting maritime traffic linked to Iranian ports following the collapse of negotiations in Islamabad.

Iran maintained that the strait remains under its control and is open for civilian shipping under specific regulations, but stressed that military presence would not be tolerated.

The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global energy route, handles a significant share of the world’s oil shipments, and any disruption has immediate implications for global markets.

The latest developments have heightened concerns of renewed conflict, with both sides adopting firm positions amid a fragile ceasefire and rising geopolitical uncertainty.
