Israel approves 34 West Bank settlements, expansion remarks raise alarm

Daijiworld Media Network - Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Apr 12: Israel has approved the establishment of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, a move widely considered illegal under international law and one that has intensified fears among Palestinians of further land loss.

The decision has drawn concern as settlement expansion in the West Bank remains one of the most contentious issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At an inauguration event, far-right Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich outlined broader ambitions, stating plans to expand Israel’s borders across Gaza, Lebanon and Syria.

The remarks have further heightened tensions in the region, with critics warning that such proposals could escalate the already volatile situation and undermine prospects for peace.
