'KOINONIA 2026' inspires young leaders with faith, unity and leadership values

Media Release

Bengaluru, Apr 8: A two-day residential 'Livin Programme' for the newly elected regional YCS/YSM executive committee was meaningfully organized on March 23, at Subhodana Pastoral Centre, KROSS, Bengaluru. Centered on the theme 'KOINONIA – Fellowship, unity, and growing together with Christ', the programme aimed at nurturing leadership, deepening faith, and fostering unity among young leaders.

The programme began with a prayer session led by Fr Ashwin Cardoza, regional director of the Karnataka Youth Commission that included the Scripture reading and sharing of reflection by the young leaders. Fr Ashwin warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the purpose of the Livin Programme, emphasizing the importance of responsible leadership rooted in Christ-centered values. This was followed by engaging warm-up activities.

The first session, led by Fr Steeven, focused on self-awareness and personal growth. Through creative activities such as self-portrait drawing, participants reflected on their identity and self-perception. The introduction of the Johari Window helped them understand different aspects of personality—Open Area, Blind Spot, Hidden Area, and Unknown Area. Participants were encouraged to expand their 'Open Area' through honesty, openness to feedback, and a willingness to explore new experiences. The session concluded with a strong message on perseverance and becoming a source of inspiration to others.

A key highlight of the programme was the reflection session based on the see–judge–act methodology. Participants were guided to: See reality with awareness and sensitivity, Judge situations in the light of Gospel values, Act with responsibility to bring about positive change. This practical framework empowered the young leaders to approach real-life situations with discernment and courage.

The day continued with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, followed by a time of fellowship during lunch. The afternoon session included a reflective video message, reinforcing the day’s learning. Team-building activities further emphasized resilience in the face of failure. Through these exercises, participants learned that challenges and setbacks are stepping stones to growth and success, both personally and collectively.

An engaging role-play session provided participants with hands-on experience in leadership and communication. Divided into groups as press members, IPS officers, and district commissioners, they simulated real-life scenarios related to organizing a YCS/YSM convention. This activity sharpened their skills in communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and handling public responsibilities with confidence and composure.

The day concluded on a deeply spiritual and emotional note. The Adoration service created a sacred space for prayer and reflection, allowing participants to surrender themselves to the Divine for healing and renewal. This was followed by a heartfelt sharing session where participants opened up about their life journeys, struggles, and hopes. This experience fostered deep bonds of trust, empathy, and unity, transforming the group into a true community of faith.

As part of the Livin programme, the young leaders were also given an exposure experience with visits to Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru, and St Joseph’s University, where they interacted with leaders and gained insights into responsible leadership in public and academic life.

The programme truly lived up to its theme of KOINONIA, nurturing not just leaders, but a community walking together in faith, fellowship, and mission.
