US FDA panel approves new flu vaccine strains, calls for broader protection

Daijiworld Media Network - Washington

Washington, Mar 13: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) vaccine advisory committee has approved updated influenza vaccine strains for the upcoming flu season, while emphasizing the need for vaccines that offer broader protection against multiple flu variants.

The panel highlighted concerns over waning immunity and the limitations of current vaccines, urging manufacturers to consider more comprehensive formulations that could provide wider coverage and reduce the risk of severe influenza outbreaks.

The decision comes ahead of the 2026-27 flu season, with health authorities recommending timely vaccination, especially for high-risk groups, including the elderly, children, and those with underlying health conditions.
