Shivamogga, Feb 25: Tension gripped Sulebailu after a 16-year-old student was murdered outside a government school on Tuesday. The police have detained seven minors in connection with the incident and deployed a large force to maintain order in the city.
The victim, identified as Sanketh (16), was an SSLC student at the government high school in Uragadur. The tragedy occurred after he attended a special class in preparation for his upcoming board exams.

According to superintendent of police (SP) Nikhil B, the murder was the fallout of a heated argument during a cricket match held two days prior. Sanketh had reportedly intervened during a quarrel between groups of boys outside the school, which led to a violent confrontation.
The SP confirmed that all seven accused are minors and former students of the same school. "We have formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter. We are also investigating allegations of ganja (marijuana) influence in the area, and the accused will undergo drug testing," SP Nikhil B told reporters.
In response to local demands, the police department is taking steps to establish a police sub-station in the locality to curb illegal activities. Extensive security has been deployed in Uragadur and surrounding parts of Shivamogga city to prevent any further escalation.
The state government has announced a total compensation of Rs 15 lac for the bereaved family. Deputy commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti stated that Rs 10 lac will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and Rs 5 lac from the education department.
