Puttur, Feb 22: A porcupine died after falling from the fourth floor of the Vivekananda College of Engineering and Technology building in Nehru Nagar on February 21, where a district-level job fair was being organized.

The incident occurred as preparations for the job fair were underway within the college premises.

According to sources, the porcupine entered the college campus while being chased by a pack of dogs. In an attempt to escape, the animal entered the college building and climbed the stairs, reaching the third floor.

Witnessing the frightened animal curled up on the stairs, onlookers informed the forest department. A team led by deputy range forest officer Ullas arrived at the spot to rescue the porcupine. However, the panicked animal climbed further up to the next floor and, in a desperate bid to escape, squeezed through a window and jumped down. The animal died on the spot due to the impact of the fall.

Rescue efforts unsuccessful

The forest department personnel attempted to capture the animal safely, but the porcupine’s fear led it to higher floors. The height of the jump proved fatal, causing its instantaneous death upon hitting the ground.

Very sad. Yesterday, in Kerala, they rescued a cat stranded in a metro station with great effort. Maybe such an effort could have saved this animal We must value animal life very much like human lives too
