Udupi, Feb 18: Residents of Panjimaru Palame near Shirva were left shocked on Tuesday when a brand-new Honda Dio scooter, barely a month old, was completely destroyed in a sudden fire while parked in a house courtyard.

The scooter’s owner, who had recently purchased the vehicle in Mangaluru, recalled, “I had just brought it home a month ago. I parked it in the courtyard in the afternoon, and suddenly flames appeared. Within seconds, it was completely burnt.”

Police from Shirva rushed to the scene and conducted a thorough inspection of the charred remains. Officials confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

This marks the second vehicle fire in the Shirva area within a week. On February 9, a Maruti Desire car travelling from Mangaluru to Shirva caught fire in the middle of the road, causing widespread alarm among commuters.

A police spokesperson said, “We are investigating the cause of the fire to determine whether it was accidental or due to a technical fault. Vehicle owners are urged to exercise caution.”

With two incidents in quick succession, residents are growing increasingly concerned about fire safety in the area.
