Puttur: Man taken into custody for smoking in public; drug consumption confirmed after medical test

Puttur, Feb 18: Based on information received from the public that a man was behaving indecently while smoking a cigarette at Kanchana Mukve in Bajattur village of Puttur taluk, the rounds duty police sub-inspector Suresh C T of Uppinangady police station, along with staff, reached the spot and took the person into custody on February 17.

During inquiry, the individual was identified as Mohammed Mohad S (33), a resident of Vittal Padnuru village in Bantwal taluk, who stated that he had been smoking a cigarette while on his way home. Subsequently, when the said person was subjected to medical examination, it was confirmed that he had consumed narcotic substances.

In this regard, a case has been registered at Uppinangady police station in Crime No. 24/2026 under Section 27(b) of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
